Hunter and Julian
Hunter, a “big” in our Dexter School program, never thought he would be a good “big brother.” He didn’t know “what to do” with a “little” but after being matched with “little” Julian at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, that all changed.
Hunter and Julian meet five days a week at the Dexter Elementary School grounds, since they are in one of Site based or school based matches. Together they enjoy playing outside, catching up on homework, and many other school based activities. “Little” Julian really enjoys spending time with Hunter. “We hang out, we play outside and it’s really fun,” said Julian. “We play board games and he helps me with my subjects. I can read much easier now.”
Julian’s confidence has increased since being matched with his “big” and aside from showing an improvement in reading and math; he is learning the importance of responsibility and patience from his “big”.
If you’re considering becoming a “big”, Hunter has some advice for you. “Be patient,” says Hunter. “Put yourself in their tiny shoes so that you can relate to them.”
There are “littles” waiting to be matched with a “big” like you!
