Little Moments, Big Magic Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern New Mexico
About Us »

Big meets Little.

Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children, ages 6-17, with adult volunteers in meaningful one-to-one relationships. At the heart of our programs is "Bigs" including "Littles" in everyday activities. These simple yet generous acts of inclusion and friendship build trust and create long-term bonds that can help direct a child to a better future.

Our programs are characterized by:
  • One-on-one friendship between a caring, adult volunteer and a child
  • Thorough, careful assessment and screening of volunteers, with child safety as our top priority
  • Thoughtful matching of volunteers and children, based on shared interests and personalities
  • Professional, ongoing support for the match and family for the duration of their time together
  • Measurable outcomes of the impact mentoring makes, using well-accepted youth development metrics

How a Big becomes a Big—and a Little, a Little.

Before we make a match, we do our homework. After someone expresses an interest in becoming a Big, they go through an extensive background check and careful interview process. Then we match Bigs and Littles based on location, personalities and preferences. And we provide full support from the start, so matches can grow into lasting, fruitful friendships. It’s also important to note that the entire matching process is made possible through donations—we can’t do what we do best without them!

What’s a Big and Little to do?

Each match is unique. Getting together doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activity—just a few hours every month doing things the Little and Big already enjoy. For example:
  • Playing catch
  • Reading books
  • Getting ice cream
  • Going to a museum
  • Providing advice and inspiration

Since 2001, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern New Mexico has been creating magic in people's lives. BBBS works to help boys and girls achieve their potential through positive adult relationships.

A volunteer does not need any special skills to be a Big Brother or Big Sister. They only need to be interested in sharing special moments with a child. Just by sharing experiences, celebrating accomplishments, and listening to a child's concerns, a Big Brother or Big Sister can make a difference to a child.
